Constituent Yields and Biomarkers of Exposure for Tobacco Product Regulation

What is the purpose of this study?

The purpose of this study is to better understand how different cigarette brands may affect smokers’ exposures to the chemicals found in tobacco smoke. Your participation will help us to understand how much of the chemicals in your usual cigarettes are taken in by your body.

How often are clinic visits?

You will attend 1 screening visit and 1 clinic visit.

What will I be doing in the study?

We will collect your vital signs and ask you to breathe into a carbon monoxide monitoring device to determine how much you smoke. We will provide you with your usual cigarettes for you to smoke until your scheduled clinic visit.  You will be asked to collect one 24 hour urine sample the day before your visit.  In addition, you will be asked to save all cigarette butts from cigarettes that you will smoke the day of the urine collection.  You will bring the urine sample and the cigarette butts to your clinic visit. Blood and cells from your mouth will also be collected.

Will I be compensated?

You will receive up to $100 for completing the study.
